“Through ECU, I can help others take charge of life”

As an eHealth PhD student at ECU, with dual interests in healthcare and computing, I have been fortunate to have become involved in the Men’s eHealth Network development project at the Vario Health Institute. Here, our research goals are to encourage men to Take Charge of Life (the MEHN slogan) by adopting positive lifestyle changes and reduce the incidence of preventable chronic diseases. Through ECU, I have realised my passion for collaborative applied research with real life applications where its end result is for the benefit of the wider community. Through continuing support from ECU lecturers and mentors in furthering my PhD studies, I have been encouraged to collaborate and network with external partners and use my somewhat unconventional combination of courses to draw in others for differing perspectives and interdisciplinary collaboration. A combination I feel has helped me reach my research potential and feel very privileged for the work I do.
