Overseas student health cover

As an International student studying with us on a student visa, it is compulsory for you to have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC).

If you are studying with us as an International student under another visa, there are optional policies you can purchase to cover any medical costs incurred in Australia.

OSHC

OSHC is a basic insurance product covering emergency medical conditions, public hospitals and most of the cost of visiting a doctor.

You will need to arrange your OSHC before arrival in Australia and maintain your cover for the duration of your student visa.

Our preferred provider is Medibank. They offer a range of products including the compulsory basic coverage and an optional Extras Cover for holders of Student Visas. Please refer to the Medibank website for detailed product information and costs.

You can purchase OSHC from any of the government-registered providers.

Paying for your OSHC

You will be advised of the payment procedure as part of the University's admission process. Payment is made to the University with the first semester's tuition fees and forwarded to the insurer on your behalf.

Extras cover for Student Visa holders

Optional additional cover for private hospitals and ancillary services such a dental, optical and physiotherapy is available from Medibank. Similar products may be available from other Australian-based insurers.

Your extra covers policy should be purchased, and paid direct to your insurer.

Basic Cover for holders of other visas

If you are studying with us as an International student under another visa, you may find your travel insurance provides only limited or no cover for medical costs incurred in Australia.

In this case, you may wish to purchase an optional basic health insurance policy to cover any medical costs incurred in Australia.

Basic Cover for holders of other short-term visas is available from our preferred provider, Medibank. Similar products may be available from other Australian-based insurers.

Your basic cover policy should be purchased, and paid direct to your insurer.
