Support for research students

As a student in one of our research courses, you will have access to a range of specialist support services.

Support on offer includes:

Research Skills workshops 

Research skills training workshops are run for research students throughout the year. Topics covered include:
  • required referencing, presentation and statistics software
  • preparing literature reviews
  • managing qualitative data
  • getting started as a research student
  • library search strategies

SOAR Centre

The SOAR Centre (Support Opportunities Advise Resources) provides peer-to-peer support in areas including:

  • required referencing, presentation and statistics software
  • research proposals
  • ethics applications
  • presentation skills

Services provided by SOAR Amabassadors are available to higher degree by research students.

SOAR services are available at our Joobndalup, Mt Lawley and South West Campuses. They link in with other support services and facilities offered throughout the university, ensuring an intergrated support system is available to our budding researchers.

ESL Training

The Graduate Research School offers grammar and skills workshops to higher degree by research students from non-English speaking backgrounds.

The workshops cover topics such as:

  • reading skills
  • paragraphing
  • paraphrasing
  • editing and proofreading 
These workshops are run biannually at our Joondalup and Mt Lawley campuses.
