Bachelor of Science

Major In Physics

Physics is the fundamental science that underpins research and development in engineering and technology.

This Physics major provides students with a thorough background in fundamental and advanced physics with a strong emphasis on scientific instrumentation, measurement and analytical skills. It is designed to meet industries' need for capable, dynamic and innovative graduates with well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills and a sound theoretical knowledge in physics. It gives students a 'hands-on' and practical understanding of Physics with laboratory-based programs and projects included in all units to encourage practical learning.

* Students who have not completed WACE Physics 3A/3B (or equivalent) need to complete SCP1132 Introduction to Physics or SCP1134 Foundations of Physics before studying SCP1111 or SCP1112 or SCP2343. ~ SCP1112 and SCP2343 may be offered in alternate years. Students can take them in any order. # Students may substitute additional mathematics and engineering units, with the permission of the physics coordinator. ^ Students who have not completed WACE Mathematics 3A/3B (or equivalent) need to complete MAT1137 Introductory Applied Mathematics before studying MAT1236.

Students wishing to qualify for Honours in Physics should consider attempting additional physics, mathematics and engineering units, in consultation with the physics coordinator.
