First year indicative tuition fees for 2014 undergraduate courses (domestic students)

Commonwealth supported: AUD $8,613.00
Domestic fee paying: AUD $19,850.00

There are two types of domestic tuition fees as displayed above. Read the following information to identify which indicative tuition fee amount may be applicable to you.

Commonwealth Supported Place

Under this arrangement, the Australian Government contributes towards your tuition fees and you are responsible for the remaining tuition fees, called your 'student contribution'.

You are eligible to be Commonwealth Supported if you are studying:

  • a Bachelor's degree;
  • an Associate Diploma;
  • an Honours degree; or
  • selected Commonwealth Government Supported postgraduate courses.

You must also satisfy ONE of the following criteria:

  • You are an Australian Citizen.
  • You hold a Permanent Humanitarian visa.
  • You are a New Zealand Citizen and you are living in Australia whilst studying.
  • You hold an Australian Permanent Residency visa and you are living in Australia whilst studying.

Please note that eligibility for a Commonwealth Supported rate of fees does not determine your eligibility for a Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) loan. For further details and to obtain a more accurate indication of fees, please use the Fees Calculator.

Domestic Tuition Fee

Domestic tuition fees (unsubsidised full fee amount) will be applicable to you if you are not eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place.

Domestic tuition fees also apply to non-award courses (courses or programs that do not lead to a higher education award, but are studied for general interest, professional purposes, or to gain entry to a degree program through an alternative pathway). More about non-award courses.

Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics and Communications)

Combines the fundamental engineering disciplines of electronic systems and communication systems to provide graduates with skills in all aspects of analog and digital circuit design and communications systems development.

The course concentrates on the engineering principles required to analyse and solve problems related to the design and implementation of electronic and communication systems.

Students will graduate conversant in the fundamental physical sciences, electronic circuits & systems, digital signal processing, power electronics, fibre optic & microwave communications, computer networking and cellular & wireless networks.

There is a focus on the development of knowledge and skills relevant to professional engineering practice, along with a sound theoretical base. The course includes strong elements of practical problem solving, team work and project development. As a result, as well as having multiple technical and transferable skill competencies, students will graduate with strong analytical skills and the ability to lead complex projects.

This course is Commonwealth Government Supported for eligible students.

Students are required to complete practicum placement(s) as part of this course.

Practicum Placement
During the course, students will be required to undertake a minimum of 12 weeks practical work experience located in an engineering industry environment. This will normally be undertaken during a vacation period, even though it is listed as a unit for Year 4 (ENS4111).

Employment Opportunities

Employment opportunities exist in most sectors of industry including communication and telecommunication, product development, fabrication, public utilities, mining & resource, defence, aerospace and consulting.

Further studies

Students whose performance over the four years of the course is of a high standard may be awarded the Bachelor of Engineering with Honours degree.

The Engineering / Business, Engineering / Laws and Engineering / Science double degrees are also available in this discipline.

Applicants who do not meet the mathematics prerequisite for this course should consider applying for the Bachelor of Technology (Electronic and Computer Systems) as a pathway.
