Graduate Diploma of Geriatric Medicine

Equips medical practitioners with the knowledge and skills to provide high quality and contemporary care for the older person. The course has a clinical focus, emphasising the common problems encountered with ageing. Preventive aspects are explored within an evidence-based context in recognition of the importance of restoration and maintainance of function and quality of life both in older adults who are unwell as well as those who are healthy. Multidisciplinary team care and the structure of healthcare are explored and the student is encouraged to consider these aspects within his/her own health system.

Further studies

Articulates with the Master of Geriatric Medicine. Students who successfully complete the Graduate Diploma and who wish to continue their studis in this area can consider applying for the Master of Geriatric Medicine. Students who successfully complete Stage 1 of the Graduate Diploma can elect to exit with a Graduate Certificate of Geriatric Medicine.
