Major In Mathematics Education
Designed for students wishing to become Secondary Mathematics teachers.
This major equips students with the skills and knowledge to teach years 7 to 12 mathematics. Emphasis is given to inquiry-based tasks, co-operative group work and whole class discussions, to ensure effective learning and teaching practices in secondary mathematics.

This unitset structure contains information about the units which comprise the course as well as the credit points required to successfully complete it.
This major is designed for students wishing to become secondary Mathematics teachers. Students will also select a minor area of study from across a broad range of other study areas including Health and Physical Education, Health Education, Outdoor Education, Visual Arts, Music, Drama, English, Social Sciences, Home Economics, Design and Technology, Computing, and Biological or Physical Sciences. Emphasis is given to inquiry-based tasks, co-operative group work, and whole class discussions, to ensure effective learning and teaching practices in secondary mathematics. The course is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge to teach Years 7-12 Mathematics as well as another learning area in a minor field of study. Graduates will be eligible to seek employment in both government and non-government secondary schools.
Special Admission Requirements
A satisfactory performance in WACE General Mathematics 3A/3B, or the equivalent, is required. (A satisfactory performance in Mathematics 3C/3D or Mathematics: Specialist 3A/3B, or the equivalent, is preferred).
