Bachelor of Engineering (Civil)

Civil engineering is the branch of engineering that deals with the design, construction and maintenance of the human-made environment, including buildings, roads, bridges, tunnels, dams and other large physical structures.

Areas of study within the Civil Engineering course include a foundation in physical and engineering sciences along with computer aided design, engineering materials, structural design & analysis, steel & concrete design, surveying, road design & construction, water supply engineering, construction technology & site management and project management.

The course focuses on the development of knowledge and skills relevant to professional engineering practice and, along with a sound theoretical base, includes strong elements of practical problem solving, team work and project development. As a result, as well as having multiple technical and transferable skill competencies, graduates will have strong analytical skills and the ability to lead complex projects.

Students will graduate with competencies in all major areas of civil engineering and be able to participate in and lead complex multidisciplinary projects.

Students are required to complete practicum placement(s) as part of this course.

Additional Course Information

Practicum Placement
During the course, students will be required to undertake a minimum of 12 weeks practical work experience located in an engineering industry environment. This will normally be undertaken during a vacation period, even though it is listed as a unit for Year 4 (ENS4111).
