Description

This unit aims to develop students ability to be confident, articulate, focused and engaging speakers. It provides an introduction to the techniques and practices required for speaking in public. These are essential oral presentation skills which will contribute to employability in a wide range of disciplines. The unit includes vocal techniques, with critical feedback and appraisal, researching and evaluating relevant and useful information for presentation content, and working in teams. It also trains students in the essential 21st century skill of simple audio editing.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Confidently deliver an oral presentation in an engaging way to a target audience.
  2. Demonstrate concise and fluent vocal techniques appropriate to public speaking.
  3. Use audio editing software to perform simple edits on audio materials.
  4. Utilise information gained through research to prepare content for presentation to a specific audience.
  5. Work cooperatively in a small group environment.

  1. Basic audio editing.
  2. Identify key points to help structure of presentations.
  3. Live presentation techniques and strategies.
  4. Research content for group presentations.
  5. Team building and the development of teamwork skills.
  6. Vocal techniques to keep your audience engaged.

GS1 GRADING SCHEMA 1 Used for standard coursework units

Students please note: The marks and grades received by students on assessments may be subject to further moderation. All marks and grades are to be considered provisional until endorsed by the relevant Board of Examiners.

Due to the professional competency skill development associated with this Unit, student attendance/participation within listed in-class activities and/or online activities including discussion boards is compulsory. Students failing to meet participation standards as outlined in the unit plan may be awarded an I Grade (Fail - incomplete). Students who are unable to meet this requirement for medical or other reasons must seek the approval of the unit coordinator.
