Description

Students are introduced to a variety of forms of sculpture, including installation and assemblage, environmental and public art. Concept development is combined with a variety of practical skills workshops using a variety of materials, techniques and methods of construction and assembly.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Articulate the technical processes, material choices and historical contexts of their work.
  2. Create 3D artworks using a range of materials, objects and sites that show evidence of research and informed practice.
  3. Demonstrate professional and safe working practices within the studio.
  4. Produce artworks that demonstrate technical skills development, as well as spatial and sensory investigations.

Unit Content

  1. Conceptualisation of new creative works, introduction to construction and finishing processes.
  2. Development of sculpture projects such as installations and environmental art.
  3. Introduction to key concepts and language in 3D art.
  4. Spatial and sensory analyses of place and the object.
  5. The historical and contemporary context of sculptural works.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Lectures, demonstrations, workshops and guest speakers from industry.
