About ECU International

At ECU International (ECUI), we work with many partners around the world to ensure that Edith Cowan University (ECU) has a positive profile and to encourage international students to choose ECU and Perth as their study abroad destination. We work closely with a wide range of teaching, research and administrative staff from Faculties / Schools / Centres within ECU to ensure that international activities are effectively managed for the university.

ECUI is made up of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (International), Dean’s Office, the Strategic and Governance Team, the International Partnership Team, the International Marketing Team, and the International Admission Team.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (International), Professor Tony Watson, provides strategic leadership over the internationalisation of education at ECU.

Professor Gensheng Shen, Dean ECU International interacts with Faculties / Schools and Centres throughout ECU to promote the internalisation of education in teaching, learning and research, and provides leadership on the university’s international activities.

Three Associate Deans (International), Professor Brenda Cherednichenko (Acting), Associate Professor Jim Cross and Associate Professor Maryam Omari, form part of the strategic planning and governance team. This team is responsible for providing strategic direction to international activity and coordination on matters of legal compliance and quality assurance.

Brian O’Connor manages the International Partnerships Team. Together with Faculties / Schools / Centres, they look after agreement documentation and quality measures for offshore programs. They are also responsible for sponsored student groups and overseeing health insurance for international students.

Callum Cowell leads the International Marketing Team and develops the university’s strategic marketing plan for international student recruitment. Regional Marketing Managers promote the university by visiting partner institutions for seminars and attending overseas education recruitment events to counsel prospective students and parents. The International Marketing team manages our global network of agents/representatives and also coordinates the participation of ECU academic staff in recruitment activities. The team also maintains the ECU International website and develops international course guides, brochures and advertising/promotional materials.

Simon Davies Burrows leads the International Admission Team, which consists mostly of International Recruitment Officers and Recruitment Support Officers. They liaise with all of the Faculties / Schools to assess the applications as they come in and, if entry requirements are met, they issue an offer. Simon also manages the Study Abroad and Exchange Office, which coordinates ECU’s student exchange and study abroad programs.
