ESOS Information for Students
The Education Services for Overseas Students Act (2000) [ESOS] provides assurances of quality education and consumer protection for International Students studying in Australia. The Act places obligations on both Education providers and Students. Education providers are required to provide specific information and advice to students to help them make informed decisions. This page is designed to provide students with key ESOS related information and links.
The ESOS Framework
The ESOS Act (2000) and associated legislative framework, protects the interests of overseas students and ensures high quality education services. The legislation does this by setting minimum standards on a range of issues that education providers must adhere to.
Detailed information on the ESOS Framework is available from the DEEWR ESOS website.
The ESOS Framework also links with Migration law and imposes visa related reporting requirements on both students and education providers.
Students can access more information on their rights and responsibilities by obtaining a copy of the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations [DEEWR] ESOS info sheet for students: The ESOS framework—providing quality education and protecting your rights
It is important to note that the ESOS Framework only applies to students studying on Student Visas. Students studying on other visa subclasses (e.g. business, spouse etc.) are not bound by the legislation.
