ECU hosted a visit from His Excellency Mr Hamed Al Hajri, Consul General for the Sultanate of Oman on Thursday, 13 May.

The purpose of the visit was to hold a meeting between His Excellency and the Omani sponsored and self funded students studying at the University.

Also in attendance was senior ECU staff, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International), Professor Tony Watson, Dean of International, Professor Gensheng Shen, Associate Dean of International (Business and Law), Professor Maryam Omari and Foundation Professor of Tourism (School of Marketing, Tourism and Leisure), Ross Dowling.

The group discussed the relationship between Oman and the University, which was followed by His Excellency’s meeting with the Omani students and a tour of the Joondalup Campus.

“The visit from His Excellency was a great honour, and provided the Omani students with a fantastic opportunity," Professor Tony Watson said.

“We look forward to further visits from the Sultanate, and hope to work with him to develop strong ties between Oman and the University.”

There are currently four sponsored and four self funded Omani students studying at ECU.

The University hopes to maintain a strong relationship with Oman, who was recently granted the right to host the third Global Geotourism Conference next year by ECU Tourism Lecturer, Professor Ross Dowling.
