ECU engaging with Brawijaya University

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Teaching, Learning, and International) Professor Ron Oliver, met with a senior delegation from Brawijaya University in Indonesia this week.

Attending on behalf of Vice-Chancellor Professor Kerry O. Cox, Professor Oliver met a delegation of 15 members, Headed by Professor Bambang Suharto, Vice Rector (Academic Affairs).

The delegation included a number of Deans and Vice-Deans {Academic Affairs] of Faculties in business and commerce, administrative science, medicine, marine science, agricultural technology, social and political science, information technology and communications. 

The delegation is visiting various universities in Western Australia to discover more about higher education in Australia and to explore possible collaborations and cooperation.

Professor Oliver was accompanied by Professor Atique Islam, Professor Gensheng Shen and Associate Professor Jim Cross.  

The meeting discussed the history, structure and achievements of ECU and the questions from the delegation relating to the Australian education system, the Australian Qualification Framework, and course structures and internationalisation at ECU. 

“ECU values highly its education partnership with universities and institutions, particularly those in Indonesia, which is Australia's closest Asian neighbour,” Professor Oliver said.

“Mutual understanding of our respective education systems is a necessary basis for any cooperation”. 

A number of possibilities for collaboration were discussed including double-degree articulation arrangements and staff exchanges.
