Mälardalens University

Name of Institution: Mälardalens University

Location: Västerås and Eskilstuna, SWEDEN

With approximately 13,000 students Mälardalen University is one of Sweden’s largest institutes of higher education. We were also the first university in the world to be environmentally certified and we are now the first in the world to be work environment certified. Most of the university's students are taking courses at one of its two centrally situated campuses in Eskilstuna and Västerås. The two cities are beautifully situated on either side of Lake Mälaren, one of Sweden's largest inland lakes. The cities are large enough to provide a wide range of accommodation, cultural activities, entertainment and sporting facilities, but not so large that students fade into anonymity. As a result of the university's growth, students now make a colourful contribution to the urban scene.

Mälardalen University is a relatively young university and celebrates its 30th birthday in 2007. In just a few years the University has developed from a regional university of technology into a broad academy and a powerful driving force in the region. The University’s close linkages with trade and industry are an important factor in our graduates’ success in the labour market after graduation. Mälardalen University also educates most entrepreneurs in Sweden.

Mälardalen University receives annually more than 500 European and overseas students to study courses and programs conducted in English.
