Financing your Exchange

Whilst on exchange, you will be enrolled as a full time Edith Cowan University student and will be required to pay your HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP to ECU. If you are an international student, you will be required to pay your international fees to Edith Cowan University . You are not required to pay tuition fees to the Host University . You will be billed according to your ECU enrolment.

The expenses you will be responsible for are listed under Exchange Expenses.

Exchange Expenses

As a general guide, we suggest that you allow for at least AUD$8000 per semester of study overseas; however, this amount will of course vary based on the country you study in.  The following information helps to break down the anticipated costs into more detail. You will see that most are already associated with study.

Living Expenses

This includes items such as accommodation, food, entertainment and miscellaneous personal items.

Information on accommodation options for each host institution can be found on their website. A link to the section of the host institutions' websites can be found on the ECU partners list.

Travel Expenses

This includes the airfare to and from the host country, as well as any in- country travel during your stay.

Travel & Health Insurance

Many institutions will require you to purchase Health Insurance through them and in many cases it is also a requirement to obtain a student visa to that particular country.

Textbooks

Just as when you are studying at ECU you will be required to purchase your own textbooks. Many institutions will have a second-hand book exchange program. You will find information on this on the host institution's website.

Miscellaneous Expenses

This would include any miscellaneous expenses occurred whilst on exchange.

Visa & Passport Expenses

The cost associated with obtaining a passport and a student visa must be met by you. This will not be covered by ECU or by your host institution.
