Overseas
Student Health Cover
Student Visa holders are required to arrange Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) before arrival in Australia and to maintain cover throughout their course. Information on the OSHC system is available at: http://www.health.gov.au/internet/main/publishing.nsf/Content/Overseas+Student+Health+Cover+FAQ-1
Students are strongly recommended to purchase cover for the full duration of their course. This removes the risk of a break in cover, attracts a discounted rate and protects against cost increases.
The University’s preferred provider is OSHC Worldcare. Students must register on-line to order their membership card. The website contains valuable information, in multiple languages, on OSHC including the cost, the extent of cover and how to lodge a claim. The site is at: https://www.oshcworldcare.com.au/Default.aspx
The OSHC Worldcare 24-hour emergency helpline is 1800 814 781. Their representatives are present on Joondalup and Mt Lawley campuses during Orientation Week and throughout semester.
The University provides an on-campus Student Health Service. See details at: http://www.ecu.edu.au/student/student-health/ Off-campus medical providers who direct bill the insurer can be found at: https://www.oshcworldcare.com.au/member_student/medical_providers.aspx
OSHC is a basic health insurance product designed to be equivalent to Medicare for Australian citizens. It covers emergency medical conditions, public hospitals and most of the cost of visiting a doctor. Please note that pre-existing illness may not be covered. Additional cover for private hospitals and ancillary services such a dental, optical and physiotherapy is available at additional cost.
Only Student Visa holders are entitled to purchase OSHC. Health Insurance products for holders of other visas can be purchased via the OSHC Worldcare website.
Payment of OSHC can be made by credit card via the website, in person at a Campus cashier or by mail to a Campus cashier.
Students should note that they may purchase OSHC from any of the government-registered providers.
