Eligibility

Each year the University offers a number of full fee scholarships for study in the Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching. These scholarships are available to ECU lecturers and other staff who impact on the student learning experience (for example, learning advisers and librarians). The scholarships are to support study in one unit per semester in this 4-unit course.

The course is an graduate level, in-service course aimed at staff already working in tertiary teaching contexts who are seeking to improve their understanding of teaching theory and practice. The course will enable staff to develop a scholarly and evidence-based perspective from which to inform practical teaching decisions.

The scholarships are an important investment by the University in developing teaching and learning. In order to maximise the outcomes from this initiative, applicants are asked to discuss with their Heads of School how their studies can contribute to and be supported by the School. Team applications from staff working in the same area are strongly encouraged.

You are eligible to apply if:

  • you are a currently employed at Edith Cowan University in a teaching capacity;
  • you are either part-time or full-time (1);
  • your contract extends beyond December 2010;
  • you meet the academic entry criteria for the Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching (2) OR you have an undergraduate qualification, and have completed PDC113 Teaching@ECU: Principles and Practices (3) and have been teaching for more than two years. Staff who do not yet meet this criteria are advised to complete PDC113 first.

Notes

  1. In special circumstances sessional staff may be awarded a scholarship.
  2. i.e. an appropriate Bachelor degree from an Australian university or a recognised equivalent qualification in the same or closely related area of study and/or have relevant work experience usually through at least five years participation in the workforce.
  3. Completion of PDC113 at an appropriate level will be considered for RPL. Details of PDC113 can be found at http://www.ecu.edu.au/LDS/pd/PDTT/pdc113.htm

Each applicant must get their Head of School/Supervisor to approve the application. There are limited places and it may require Faculty ranking to facilitate selection.
