Resource Development Services

The Resource Development team provide a range of services to academic staff, including support for the use of Flexible Learning technologies and advice and guidance on the development and use of learning resources and Interactive Multimedia.

All requests for support must be directed in the first instance to the Resource Development Team leader, Chris Leigh on extension 6344 or c.leigh@ecu.edu.au.

Flexible Learning support

Flexible Learning Developers provide guidance and support to teaching staff in the creation, development and preparation of flexibly delivered learning resources, and the use of information communication technologies in a blended learning environment.

This service can include:
  • Preparation of content for flexibly delivered learning resources (print, Web-based, streaming media, CD/DVD)
  • Provision of advice and support to academic staff on the creation of flexibly delivered learning resources
  • Provision of advice and support to academic staff on the use of Learning Management Systems and Information Communication Technologies, including Blackboard, FlexiLecture, Turnitin and web synchronous tools.

Material Development Services

  • Administration, development, and maintenance of existing distance and flexible learning print-based packages (including any print elements of Mode A or Mode B units).
  • Coordinating with related production services eg., eCentral.
  • Conducting quality assurance audits and providing evaluation reports.

Desktop Publishing Services

"Help Desk" support for staff developing or updating materials, including:

  • Provision of various templates and associated training.
  • Scanning.
  • Basic graphic manipulation.
  • File conversion (eg., Word to pdf etc.).
  • Html.
  • Text manipulation and other desktop publishing services.
  • Reader preparation (fee for service).
  • Document storage and security.
  • Development and refinement of templates and processes for print production, in cooperation with ID's and MD's.

Interactive Multimedia support

The Interactive Multimedia section provides support and advice to teaching staff in the development of digital media and the use of ICT software and hardware. This service can include:

  • The development of interactive multimedia and digital learning resources including:
    • Graphics: design and development of visual communication solutions using digital technologies for on-line resources, posters, brochures, displays and illustrations
    • Video/audio production: development, capture, editing or conversion of video and audio resources
    • Multimedia programming: development of interactive multimedia resources for on-line or CD/DVD
    • Web development: Creation and maintenance of web based resources e.g. XML files for podcasts
  • Provide advice and support to staff on the development of interactive multimedia and digital learning resources
  • Advise staff on the use of digital capture and streaming hardware and software e.g. Flexilecture and Camtasia
  • Research and evaluate ICT for use in support of learning
  • Management of the LDS experimental learning space
  • Provide support for the development and maintenance of online user resources for Blackboard and university supported learning systems e.g. video clips
