Library Catalogue Enhancements

Several Catalogue features are now available for all ECU staff and students.

These functions will allow you to:

  • Access restricted information without the need to re-authenticate
  • Save your search terms for future use.
  • Be notified when items of interest are acquired by the Library
  • Be notified when items you have ordered are available

To access these new features, select Login to Library Profile from the catalogue home page.

How to use the features:
Options can be accessed from the
Patron Record page including:

  • Search the Catalogue: As you are already logged in, you can search the catalogue as usual.  However, if you need to access authenticated resources such as databases or place a request, you do not need to re-authenticate. The exceptions are exam papers and e-reserve items, as the authentication page contains a copyright statement which must be viewed before each item.

  • Preferred Search: After searching in the catalogue, you can save a successful searches strategy as a "Preferred Search" for easy reference and searching in future sessions. You can do this using the ‘Save search?’ button on the search results screen. You can save an author, title, subject, keyword, call number, or journal title search.

This adds the search to your Patron Record page.

You can run a Preferred Search again later by selecting the Search link beside the search in the Patron Record page (see above). Ten Preferred Searches can be saved at any one time. After 10 the ‘Save Search’ button will not appear on the search results screens until you remove a save search.

E-mail alerts can be set up so whenever ECU Library acquires new material within the search criteria (e.g., new titles by a specified author) you will be notified. This is set up by using ‘Mark for e-mail’ checkbox, and clicking ‘Apply Changes’ button (see above). Currently, the e-mails are run every Monday morning.

Academics can set up an alert for material that they have requested for acquisition to the Library. Just set up a search for the title of the item, and check ‘Mark for E-mail’.

At the top of most screens there is a message reminding you to log out when finished. This is to protect your privacy. There is a 10 minute default log out just in case you forget.
