Like to be notified when new information in your subject area is published?
Subscribe to an alerting service and your will be informed when newly published materials is added to a database or website.
- some alerts have a pre-defined topic eg the latest news, marketing articles etc.
- some databases allow you to customise your alert to cover your topic or a journal's latest contents page.

RSS feeds are easily recognised as they usually display the RSS icon followed by the topic of the feed. Subscribe to an RSS feed and the content will be delivered automatically to your RSS Reader or RSS aggregator. You could theoretically subscribe to hundreds of RSS feeds.
* Choose an RSS Reader from the ones listed here or search the internet for other RSS readers.

Select "Login to My Library Profile" from the catalogue home page.
Search as normal using author, title, keyword, subject, or call number options.
Save the search by clicking the "Save search?" button, and then the "Patron - Record" Button. (both buttons are found on the search results screen. You will be returned to the My Record screen).
Click on Preferred Searches
Tick the box Mark for email, and click on Apply changes.

Do a search
From the results page, click on Create search alert
Choose either e-mail or RSS feed

Enter your e-mail address
Choose frequency of the alert (daily, weekly or monthly)
Click on Save.

ASAP Alerts – notifies you of new articles in your area of interest.
Table of Contents Alert – notifies you when there is a new issue of your nominated journal (s).

RSS Feeds are available for articles and Table of Contents pages.
To activate, go to the American Chemical Society Publications Home page and click on the link: E-mail Alerts & RSS Feeds

Click on Set up an e-mail alert
Click on Register Now
Enter your e-mail address, an unique userid and password of your choosing.
Once your registration has been confirmed, you can enter your search terms for weekly or monthly e-mail alerts.

Alerts are available for Saved Topic Searches, Table of Contents, Online Early and Citation Alerts
To register, click on Sign up for e-mail alerts

Need to register
After registration, log-in then choose 'Personalise' from the 'Account Options' menu.

Sign-in to the database
Do a search as usual
Click on Search History/ Alerts
Click on Saved Search/ Alerts
Fill in the required details – name of alert, databases to be searched (use the Ctrl key to select more than one)
In the Save search as section, place a tick in the box next to Alert
Click Save

You must first register yourself as a user.
Click on My Profile to register

There are 3 alerts options
* Saved search alerts: after each search you will be given the option of adding it to your alerts, select number of hits you would like sent, enter a name for the saved search

* TOC Table of contents alerts: click on My Profile, select by journal title, click on Update

* Weekly digest alerts: Emerald will email summaries of journal issues published each week. Select either subscribed or all journals.

Need to register
Do search as usual
Click on Search History
Click on Save History/Create Alert button
Fill in the details
Click the Save button.
* Note that all E-mail Alerts expire after 24 weeks (you will receive notification of this by e-mail), and it will be necessary to renew them at that point - do this by signing in, and then clicking on the Open / Manage Saved Searches link.

To register, click on Please log in to My Research
Scroll down the screen and click on New users register here. Follow the prompts
Do search
Click on Alert Me
Choose format for Alert, either email or RSS.

Sign-in to the database
Do a search as usual
Click on Search History/ Alerts
Click on Saved Search/ Alerts
Fill in the required details – name of alert, databases to be searched (use the Ctrl key to select more than one)
In the Save search as section, place a tick in the box next to Alert
Click Save

To create a publication alert:
Locate the desired publication using Publication search
Search for a publication title & get to the results page.
To receive an email alert, click on the link to “Set Up Alert”, follow the prompts then click save.
To receive an RSS alert, click on the link ”Create RSS Feed” , when the new window opens, copy the RSS URL provided & paste it into your RSS reader (e.g. Bloglines).

To create a search or topic alert:
Run the desired search from either the Advanced or Basic pages & get to the results page.
To receive an email alert, click on the link to “Set Up Alert”, follow the prompts then click save.
To receive an RSS alert, click on the link ”Create RSS Feed” , when the new window opens, copy the RSS URL provided & paste it into your RSS reader (e.g. Bloglines).

On the results page, click on Save as Search Alert
Follow the prompts
Can also create Volume/Issue Alerts and Citation Alerts

First register and sign in
Select the type of Alert required. There are a number to choose from, such as:

* New Issue Alerts - tells you when new issues of your chosen journals are available

*Citation Alerts - tells you when your chosen pieces of content are cited by other new content

* Search Alerts - tells you when new content matching your saved search expression is available

Do search
From the results page click on Search History
Click on Create Alert
Type in your e-mail address in the form provided
Click on Save Alert
