NOTE: From the start of 2nd semester 2008, all ILL items for on-campus staff and students are to be collected from the ECU Library Loans desk and will be issued on the ECU Loans system so that we can track them and issue recall / overdue notices more efficiently. Penalties will apply for late returns. Remote staff and students (onshore) will still have their loans posted to them. Copies are still delivered to the online VDX document store.

The Document Delivery Service enables ECU staff, graduate, higher degree and remote external students to place requests for loans or articles from other libraries and document supply services. This service is free of charge and is designed to support University teaching, learning and research.

Document Delivery Services are extended to:

1. Academic and General Staff with University related research needs.
2. Graduate and Higher Degree students
3. Remote and External Students
4. Offshore students

ECU VDX (Virtual Document eXchange)

2. Search & Request, enter search terms, GO!
3. Click Get it! on desired title.
4. For copies enter details for article or chapter in fields under Part Details.
5. Submit & accept Copyright prompt (for articles & chapters)
6. Note ILL request number for tracking purposes.
7. If you have problems obtaining all the information necessary to place your request, try Google Scholar. This is a search engine that indexes the content of scholarly material published on the internet and in electronic books and journals.

Otherwise, please refer to the VDX User Guide.

Note:

  • Patrons with overdue inter-library loans may be banned from further use of VDX.
  • A TIFF viewing program (AlternaTIFF) has been deployed within ECU. Outside ECU you can download this freely from www.alternatiff.com follow the installation and registration instructions
  • Loans are not available to offshore patrons.

TIFF and PDF viewing problems
On a PC (within ECU) go to Start>Programs>AlternaTIFF>Reinstall AlternaTIFF. Outside of ECU please contact the ECU IT Service Desk by phone: (08) 6304 6000 or ext. 6000 or email: itservicedesk@ecu.edu.au.

Mac users: please use Firefox browser, go into Preferences and turn off the TIFF viewer. When you next open a TIFF document the Mac operating system will convert it to PDF format for viewing and printing.
