Authenticating to Library Resources

Access to online library resources at ECU is largely dependent on your relationship to ECU and your location (on or off campus).

Each campus library has PCs available for students to use.
Login to these PCs using the standard ECU login that you use at the megalabs (set up on Central Authentication System and also used for SIMO and Blackboard).
Each library also has express terminals which do not require a login.

On campus
Many online library resources are accessible with minimum authentication. These include:

  • MetaQuest: use your ADS login.
  • VDX:  staff/student number & date of birth.
  • eReserve: use your WAM login
  • Exam Papers: available via the catalogue. Use your WAM login.
  • Some inDOOR databases: inDOOR is generally open access, but some databases are limited access and require authentication by WAM login
Off Campus
All online resources are available off campus however as your PC is not operating within the ECU domain additional authentication is required.
  • MetaQuest: use ADS login. In addition, before full text is accessed you will need your WAM login
  • SFX Article Locator: use WAM login
  • inDOOR: the interface is open access however when selecting a database, will require WAM login
  • VDX: same as on campus.
  • eReserve: same as on campus.
  • Exam Papers: same as on campus.
Definitions:
WAM (Web Access Management): A library system that authenticates against your Library Patron Record. This is used to authenticate databases, eReserve, exam papers and your library record..
Staff / students need to use their ADS login in the left-hand column, everyone else use their name and barcode number in right hand column.
If for any reason the ADS login does not work, staff / students can also use their name and student/staff number in right hand column

ADS Login: Sometimes referred to as the CAS or LDAP login. This authenticates against your ECU record and requires the login you have set up in the Central Authentication System (CAS).  This login is also used to authenticate you against the firewall when leaving the ECU websites. You must be a current staff or enrolled student to have an active ECU account.
