ECU's Professor Rob Newton and Dr Daniel Galvão have been successful in gaining funding for two new research projects aimed at improving outcomes for older Australians and prostate cancer patients.
Professor Rob Newton has been awarded $360,000 from Healthway, over three years.
In collaboration with researchers at UWA, the study will investigate whether physical activity can improve the response to treatment for depression in people aged over 65.
Dr Daniel Galvão and Professor Robert Newton, have been awarded $476,024 over four years for a large, population-based trial of exercise therapy to control treatment side-effects in prostate cancer patients.
Traditional treatment for slowing prostate cancer growth often results in a number of adverse side-effects and preliminary studies have suggested that exercise can reduce these effects.
The funding was awarded by the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
