ECU's journalism and broadcasting students have picked up major national tertiary awards in Wollongong.
The 2008 OSSIE Awards for Journalism Students were presented at the University of Wollongong in New South Wales this week recognising top journalism students from the 27 universities in Australia which run journalism programs.
ECU's Paul Munro was awarded Best Broadcast Current Affairs Story by a Postgraduate Student.
Best TV Current Affairs Story by an Undergraduate Student was awarded to Rifet Hrkic and Marie Frisholm.
Estelle Lewis was named Runner-up for Best Current Affairs Story by a Postgraduate Student.
In total, there were 137 entries competing for the 15 awards that were presented by Dr Suellen Tapsall, the outgoing President of Australias Journalism Education Association (JEA).
The results place ECU's journalism program as the best in Western Australia. Dr Trevor Cullen, ECU's Journalism Course Coordinator, described the awards as a tremendous result for the students and lecturers.
While in Wollongong, Dr Cullen was elected Vice-President of the JEA, and ECU was nominated to co-host the 2009 JEA conference in Perth.
