ECU celebrated the Australia Day Council's Young Australian of the Year program earlier this month at the Government House Ballroom.

The function was sponsored by ECU, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International) Professor Tony Watson gave an official welcome.

Jonty Bush, Young Australian of the Year, spoke about losing her sister and father to crime and how this experience has inspired her to help and support others. Jonty is currently campaigning for a review of murder and manslaughter laws in her home state of Queensland.

David Wirrpanda, WA's Young Australian of the Year, spoke about the David Wirrpanda Foundation and his dream of helping young Indigenous Australians gain an education and make healthy lifestyle choices.

ECU's Professor Murray Lampard also attended the event and said that both speakers were very inspiring.
