ECU success at the 2009 Australian University Games

The 2009 Australian University Games (AUG) concluded last week with ECU finishing in 16th place with a total of 388 points.
41 universities from around Australia went to the Gold Coast to compete in different sports ranging from swimming to athletics to volleyball.
More than 150 students from ECU competed in 13 sports over five days of competition.
ECU won gold medals for
- Beach Volleyball – Mixed Division 1
- Lawn Bowls –Open Division 1
- Relay 4 x 100m – Men
Silver medals were won in
- AFL – Men Division 2
- Beach Volleyball – Men Division 1
- Long Jump – Women
- 100m Sprint – Men
- 200m Sprint – Men
- 400m Sprint – Men
A bronze medal was won in 400m Sprint – Women.
Three ECU students received Green and Gold awards which recognises them as best players of the competition.

- T. Harrington – Women’s Hockey
- Blake Heldt – Open Lawn Bowls
ECU Sports and Recreation Supervisor, Belinda Somers, congratulated all participating students on a fantastic effort.
“Many new friendships and bonds were made during the week which resulted in exceptional team support, leading to excellent results,” Belinda said.
“I was so proud to be supporting this group of ECU students with such an amazing team spirit,” she said.
The 2009 AUG had a record 7,000 participants with a full sporting program requiring the days to commence earlier than usual.
