Support to those affected by tragedies in Indonesia and the South Pacific
Friday, 02 October 2009
The devastating natural disasters that have claimed many lives in Indonesia, Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga this week may directly, and indirectly, affect many members of the ECU community.
Many of our staff and students will have family and friends who may be affected by these tragedies, or may be personally affected. ECU is offering support through the following means:
Counselling is available on all campuses. Students wishing to access this assistance should contact 9370 6706 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
For all other enquiries or help please contact 6304 2000 or email email@example.com or visit Student Central.
Staff and their immediate families can access a counselling service through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). This service provides emotional support and can provide practical guidance including advice on other forms of support which may be available. Details of the EAP are available on-line at http://www.hr.ecu.edu.au/osh/html/employee_assistance.cfm.
Students or staff with concerns for family and friends in the affected areas should first try to contact them directly. If they are unable to be contacted or you hold fears for their safety, you can call the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on 1300 555 135 within Australia (local call cost).
Our thoughts and best wishes are with members of the ECU community who have been affected by these disasters and with the people of Indonesia, Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga.
