ECU to host national journalism conference

ECU is the major host and sponsor of the 2009 Australian Journalism Education Conference.

The theme for this year’s conference is ‘Journalism in the digital age’ and this annual three-day conference (from 30 November - 2 December) brings together journalism academics from 29 universities in Australia, along with overseas media professionals and academics from New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, China and Britain.

The conference will be opened by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kerry Cox, on Monday, 30 November.

This is the first time that ECU had hosted a national journalism conference.

Keynote speakers include:

  • Eric Beecher, chairman of Crikey.com;
  • Mike Van Niekerk, managing director of of Fairfax Online;
  • ECU’s Associate Professor Peter Van Onselen; and
  • Brett McCarthy, editor of The West Australian.
