Postgraduate WAAPA Broadcasting student, Jamie Burnett has won the prestigious Student Prize at the 2009 WA Media Awards.
The prize is open to all full-time undergraduate and postgraduate journalism students enrolled at a West Australian tertiary institution and this is the third consecutive year that the award has gone to an ECU student. ECU/WAAPA Broadcasting students, Dominique Pratt (2008) and Jayde Little (2007) were the previous winners.
Entrants submitted up to three pieces of their best work, showing a range of skills and styles and the judges said Mr Burnett was a worthy winner.
“Jamie’s radio interviews were extremely professional, entertaining, informative and well balanced,” said WA Journalists Association President David Cohen.
The Awards were presented at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre on Saturday, 7 November.
“We’re very proud of the standard of our students’ work, and Jamie’s win on Saturday night is a wonderful personal achievement,” said Broadcasting lecturer, Jo McManus.
“To have had an ECU/WAAPA Broadcasting student win this award three years in a row is a thrill for the whole Broadcasting team.”
