Four high-achieving engineering students from ECU have received scholarships from the Orion Group to help cover costs associated with study.

Valued at $2,000 per year, the Orion scholarships, based on high academic achievement, were presented to one student from each of the four cohorts (first-year through to fourth-year) for the duration of their studies.

First-year student Chris Scholte, Alexander O’Neil in second-year, Sven Stankovich in third-year and final-year student Trenton Auld were thrilled to receive recognition for their hard work.

Alexander said that the financial assistance will have a large impact on the time he can dedicate to his studies.

“The financial assistance will be a great help over the coming years and I won’t have to rely on part-time work as much,” he said.

Orion Group General Manager Simon Metcalfe and Administration Coordinator Michelle Carter met with scholarship recipients at a presentation ceremony at ECU’s Joondalup Campus recently.

Mr Metcalfe said that Orion hopes the scholarship program will encourage engineering graduates to consider a career in engineering-related construction for the oil and gas industry.

“With the current skilled labour shortage, it’s important to help support student engineers to ensure the future of major projects in WA and Australia,” he said.

“ECU has a reputation for its industry involvement and innovative ideas, and we are delighted to be working with students to help them achieve their best.”
