ECU graduate Ceinwen Langley has won a place in the AWG FREMANTLEMEDIA Scriptwriter Training Initiative.

The coveted internship provides the opportunity for two writers to join the Neighbours writing team for six weeks as trainee storyliners, to learn what it takes to write for Australia’s favourite television series.

Ceinwen was selected from 109 submissions nationwide and will receive $5,000 as part of her prize.

John Rapsey, Coordinator of Scriptwriting at ECU says Ceinwen has a bountiful imagination and a distinctive voice as a writer.

“Cei showed plenty of promise in the undergraduate scriptwriting units, but it wasn’t until her placement on WA children’s seriesTrapped that she really committed to a career. At the WA Screen Academy she went into creative overdrive and leapt at every opportunity to write, develop her craft, and refine her vision,” he said.

“I hope she’ll hire me when she gets her first television series on air!”

Ceinwen is thrilled with the opportunity to work on Neighbours.

“Most of the country’s greatest screenwriters developed their story skills writing on the soaps, which have been a rich tradition in Australian television drama since the 1960s,” she said.
