ECU South West rewarded for healthy approach

ECU South West was awarded a Healthy Active Lifestyle Award from the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (ACHPER) on Monday, 30 November.

Presented by His Excellency Dr Ken Michael AC, Governor of Western Australia, the award recognises outstanding achievement in health, physical and outdoor education in Western Australia.

ECU South West achieved the Winning Nomination in the category of ‘Physical Activity Initiative’.

The submission described the enhanced on-campus sport and recreation opportunities that were implemented in 2009, and the resulting increased participation of both staff and students.

The award was accepted by Sport and Recreation Officer Belinda Chan (ECU South West Sport and Recreation Officer), Sport and Recreation Committee Member Joan Strikwerda-Brown, and Dean of ECU South West, Robert Irvine.

At the same award ceremony ECU South West Education student, Sarah Rooney, received a an ACHPER Tertiary Student Award for her outstanding contribution to Health and Physical Education, in particular her initiatives with disengaged students and contributions to community sport and physical activity.

Congratulations to Sarah, Belinda, the Sport and Recreation Committee and to all staff and students who have organised or participated in this year’s activities.
