The successful beach volleyball teams
Congratulations to the 36 ECU students who competed at the recent Indian Rim Asian University Games.
Fielding teams in four events, the ECU took home two gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze medal in what was the University’s most successful campaign in the Games’ three year history.
ECU dominated the beach volleyball competition, with Michael Snart and Mark van Winsen part of the gold-medal-winning mixed fours team, as well as taking the silver medal in the men’s pairs. Melanie Fowler and Rebecca Kelly won the bronze medal in the women’s pairs.
The Games are open to University teams from the Indian Ocean Rim and Asian regions and provide an excellent opportunity for ECU students to experience international competition. Seven countries and more than 30 universities competed in the 2009 Games.
This year’s Games were the largest international university sports competition ever hosted in Australia.
