Primary students investigate pond life
ECU Mount Lawley hosted 165 primary school children on Saturday for the fifth annual ‘Science for Kids Day’ (S-Kids Day).
Children participated in fun, hands-on science activities to encourage enthusiasm for science.
Activities were led by experienced science teachers and ECU staff with support from pre-service teachers in ECU’s Bachelor of Education and Graduate Diploma of Education courses.
Professor Lyn Beazley, WA’s Chief Scientist and S-Kids Patron, opened the event which is organised and sponsored by ECU, the Science Teachers’ Association of WA (STAWA) and Scitech.
Professor Brenda Cherednichenko, Executive Dean (Faculty of Education and Arts) said that S-Kids Day is a fantastic opportunity for ECU Education students to engage with partnership schools, primary school children and parents.
“This event inspires children’s interest in science and also showcases ECU’s role in promoting scientific literacy in the primary years,” she said.
