ECU, as part of the Joondalup Learning Precinct and in conjunction with the City of Joondalup, hosted the World Environment Day Expo at Lakeside Joondalup on Saturday, 5 June.
The Expo, held on World Environment Day, raised awareness about environmentally sustainable practices and activities within the community while promoting the Year of Biodiversity.
Attendees were treated to environmental activities such as composting and worm farm demonstrations, environmental documentaries and interactive displays, and learnt about waste, transport, biodiversity and community projects.
The Joondalup Learning Precinct and City of Joondalup made a conscious effort to offset any pollution caused by the event, donating money to Carbon Neutral, a not for profit organisation that plants native seedlings in rural areas.
Coordinator of ECU’s Environmental Services, Belinda O’Brien, hopes the Expo will promote environmental initiatives within the local community.
“This year World Environment Day focused on biodiversity, celebrating the diverse range of plants and animals that make up our natural ecosystems.”
“By supporting World Environment Day ECU is making a conscious effort to educate the community about environmental issues, helping to promote environmentally sustainable practises and initiatives.”
