Competing students from ECU, UWA and Notre Dame
ECU South West played host to the University of Western Australia (UWA) and the University Notre Dame Australia (UNDA) on Saturday, 31 July to Sunday, 1 August for the inaugural ECU Sports Regional Challenge.
The event attracted over 70 students and support staff from regional and metropolitan universities to compete in a weekend of sport, including basketball, netball, soccer and volleyball.
The event was created to give regional campuses the chance to compete at a university level, an opportunity they often miss out on due to the distance between regional campuses.
ECU Sports Joondalup Recreation Officer, Joshua Van Kampen, was pleased with the success of this inaugural event.
“It was amazing to see so many participants in our first event, which brought together students from Perth, Bunbury, USA and even Sweden,” said Mr Van Kampen.
“ECU Bunbury provided the perfect location, and combined with the enthusiasm and friendliness of the students resulted in a truly successful event, which we hope to bring back again next year.”
Dean of the Faculty of Regional and Professional Studies, Mr Robert Irvine, presented UWA students with the ECU Sports Regional Challenge trophy as winners of the weekend competition, with ECU Mount Lawley finishing in second place.
