One of Miss Marshall's winning pieces, entitled Withdrawal
Congratulations to ECU visual arts and education student, Miss Shirin Marshall, who recently won both the Photomedia Award at the City of Joondalup Community Arts Exhibition and the Photography Award at the City of Belmont 2010 Art Awards.
The City of Joondalup Community Arts Exhibition is one of the premier annual events for local artists in the region, attracting over 200 artworks and 8,000 visitors.
Miss Marshall was awarded the prestigious Photomedia Award at the exhibition, for her piece entitled Withdrawal, which depicts a solitary figure immersed in a battle of her own thoughts.
Miss Marshall also received the Photography Award at the annual City of Belmont Art Awards for her piece entitled Tableau.
Tableau was also recognised with the Sister City Photographic Exchange Award, a special initiative from the City of Belmont which recognises pieces that effectively depict the region.
Both awards saw Miss Marshall win more than $1,200 in prize money, with her piece, Tableau also selected to be shown in Japan as part of the Sister City Photographic Exchange Program.
Miss Marshall is thrilled to receive the awards, which have given her the confidence to pursue a photographic career after she graduates this year.
“Having had the opportunity to refine my photographic portfolio and to showcase some of my work this year, and well as being presented with a number of awards, has further fuelled my thirst to excel and break into the photography industry.”
