WAAPA's graduate dance program, the LINK Dance Company is inviting staff and students to attend a free information session and open rehearsal as part of the 2010 Research Week program of events on Tuesday, 17 August and Thursday, 19 August.

The LINK Dance Company is the only graduate dance program in the country and aims to bridge the gap between university studies and professional practice.

Visitors can go backstage and see the company as they rehearse for their upcoming performance of 'Cass Mortimer-Eipper’s Le Chat Noir' that will feature in the companies season Over and Out and get to see what physical research means and how the dancers prepare for a show.

Students will also be sharing stories from their recent performance and workshop tour of Europe in an information session entitled Reflections on European Discoveries.

The presentation will cover everything from how to pack a suitcase to the finer details of European contemporary dance techniques and performances.

Lecturer at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts and Artistic Director of the LINK dance company, Mr Michael Whaites, encourages staff and students to attend.

“The LINK Dance Company is the only graduate dance program in the country that collects students together like a professional company, and allows students a transition year between training and the profession while still being supported in a conservatory environment.”

“These events are a fantastic opportunity to get an insight into the work done by the company, see rehearsals and meet the students.”

Registrations for both events close on Friday, 13 August, 2010. For more information and to register, visit the Research Week website.
