Delegates from the Tianjin University of Technology Education (TUTE), China attended ECU on Friday, 17 September to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), an official document outlining future agreed collaboration between the two universities.

The MoU, signed by Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kerry Cox, and President of the Tianjin University of Technology and Education, Professor Meng Quingguo, was officially ratified at the event, with Professor Cox represented by Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International), Professor Brenda Cherednichenko.

Other delegates from TUTE included Deputy Director General, Tianjin Education Commission, Professor Yu Lijun; Director of International Programs, Mr Xie Chao; Deputy Director of International Exchange Office, Ms Wang AiMin and Section Chief of the International Exchange Office, Mr Zhang Lei.

Representatives from ECU included Dean of ECU International, Professor Gensheng Shen; Associate Dean International, Associate Professor Helen Vella Bonavita; Partnership Development Officer, ECU International, Miss Fengmei Guo and Coordinator International, Ms Cecilia Sacoto.

The visit focussed on future collaboration in the areas of teacher’s training and the Master of Education (Leadership), and also acted as an arena for both universities to discuss future research opportunities.

Professor Cherednichenko says the visit highlights ECU’s commitment to fostering relationships with universities on an international level.

“It was a privilege to welcome this senior delegation from Tianjin and the Tianjin University of Education and Technology, the only vocational education and training university in China."

“A key area of interest was initiating some joint research activity, and signing the MoU will support the development of this relationship,” said Professor Cherednichenko.

The MoU was first discussed in 2006, with delegates visiting ECU back in 2004. Since that time, both institutions have been working together to develop mutually beneficial learning opportunities.
