Lecturers exhibition shows different side to international fashion

ECU adjunct lecturer in the School of Communications and Arts, Ms Michelle Taylor is bringing a touch of New York fashion to the South West town of York with her photography exhibition Fashion Trails.

The exhibition, which opened on Saturday, 4 September at the York Mill Gallery, is a series of behind the scenes photographs taken at international fashion shows, providing audiences with a candid look at the vulnerable side of international modelling.

Taylor’s photos, all developed in black and white, capture real life moments, showing models smoking, talking and waiting around and are a stark comparison to the glossy runway pictures that dominate our fashion magazines.

“I find things beautiful that aren’t supposed to be, when you think no-one is watching, and your guard is down, there’s something beautiful about that vulnerability,” said Ms Taylor.

Ms Taylor, who has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Photomedia, has over eight years of international photography experience as a trend forecaster, studio manager and photographer.

She now teaches Fashion Photography at ECU, where she passes on her passion and knowledge to budding fashion photographers.
