ECU students win prestigious international awards

Congratulations to broadcasting students Ms Ann Jones and Mr Damian Smith along with the Graduate Diploma Broadcasting class of 2010, who were all winners at the annual international Ossie Awards, presented at the Journalism Education Association of Australia Annual Conference in Sydney on Thursday, 25 November.

The awards recognise excellence in student journalism and are open to students from universities across Australia and New Zealand, as well as some universities in the South Pacific.

Ms Jones was announced as the winner in the category of Best Radio News Story by an Undergraduate or Postgraduate Student with Mr Smith won the category of Best TV News Story by an Undergraduate or Postgraduate Student.

The Graduate Diploma Broadcasting class of 2010 were also awarded the Best Regular Student Publication for their ECUTV News program.

Broadcasting Coordinator, Ms Jo McManus congratulated the students on their achievements.

“Our students’ success at these awards is a testament to the strength of the broadcasting and journalism programs here at ECU and we are all very proud of their achievements.”

ECU was the second biggest winner on the night with ECU students also receiving three highly commended accolades in the categories of Best Print News Story; Best Print Feature and Best Broadcast Current Affairs Story.
