ECU’s secau Security Research Centre is pleased to welcome Senior Lecturer from the School of Criminal Justice, University of South Africa (UNISA), Mr Doravel Govender to the Joondalup Campus, to provide an insightful and personal look into the world of South African Security.
Prior to his appointment to UNISA, Mr Govender worked with the South African Police Force for 36 years, achieving the status of Assistant Commissioner before leaving to take up a position with the University.
He will discuss his latest paper, which looks at the current statistics relating to violent crimes throughout South Africa and the public perceptions of these crimes.
He will also discuss the role of private and national security, and the crime combating strategies implemented so far to create a safe and secure environment throughout South Africa.
Mr Govender will provide a personal and informative look into the South African police force and the current security measures in place, as well as the current security risks and issues. This presentation is a wonderful opportunity to hear from one of the experts on the field as he presents a firsthand account of South African security culture.
