School of Exercise and Health Sciences lecturer Chris Abbiss with U18 Balcatta Soccer Club player Patrick Sara
ECU's Faculty of Business and Law is pleased to announce its sponsorship of the Balcatta Soccer Club U16 and U18 boys teams in the upcoming Great Wall Cup soccer tour in Beijing, China.
The Great Wall Cup is an international youth soccer tournament organised by Beijing Football Association, in association with China Sports Tour. The tour runs from the 17-23 July this year.
This tour provides young teams a unique opportunity to play against opponents from around the world. Teams will also enjoy extra activities such as learning basic Chinese, taking part in Kung Fu lessons, and visiting the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City.
ECU’s soccer science specialists in the School of Exercise, Biomedical and Heath Science have also been working with the teams, preparing them for the Chinese climate during the tour. The teams exercised in 35 degree heat and 50 percent humidity in an acclimatisation chamber over three sessions to help them adjust to the conditions they will experience in China.
The U18 team will experience the benefits of these sessions first, as they have been specially selected to play during the Great Wall Cup Opening Ceremony in a championship match against Beijing Guoan Football Club.
