Associate Professor Deslea Konza, Director of the Fogarty Learning Centre, features in the next instalment of Research@ECU.

The video features the Principals as Literacy Leaders project which is part of a $2.2 million initiative funded by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations to support literacy and numeracy development in low socioeconomic status schools from 2009 to 2011.

The Project, conducted by ECU in conjunction with Griffith University and the Australian Catholic University and initiated by the Australian Primary Principals Association, was led by Professor Greg Robson and his team of researchers: Associate Professor Deslea Konza, Keith Newton, Paul Woodley, and Dr Graeme Lock.

Associate Professor Konza’s success has been attributed to her ability to make research findings accessible to policy makers and practitioners.

Her research outcomes translate into meaningful and coherent guidelines for those directly responsible for the literacy outcomes of children.

Associate Professor Konza is currently involved in several large projects involving the professional development of principals and teachers in low socioeconomic status primary schools across Australia.
