ECU held flag-raising ceremonies at the Joondalup and Mount Lawley Campuses this week to symbolically launch National PRIDE Month, which takes place throughout October.

PRIDE Month encourages cultural expression and celebrates, champions and supports the rights and freedoms of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer and other same sex attracted people living in Western Australia.

The event was attended by members of the ECU community and was a chance for the University to show their commitment to providing a culture that is free from discrimination and harassment, while supporting the social and cultural diversity of our community.

“ECU is committed to ensuring that students and staff from all backgrounds, are valued both as individuals and as members of the University community,” said Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Engagement, Equity and Indigenous) Professor Brenda Cherednichenko.

“With the raising of the PRIDE flag we are recognising the commencement of PRIDE month at ECU.”
