Limousines, glamorous dresses, photographers and a packed auditorium. Hollywood? No. This was the scene at the screening of Boundaries, a collection of films from 2011 WA Screen Academy and WAAPA students.
The annual event is well known for displaying some of the best emerging talent in the WA screen industry.
Each year the WA Screen Academy directors, writers, producers, cinematographers and editors join forces with WAAPA actors, art directors, costume designers, lighting technician, sound designers and composers to produce six festival-quality short films.
The event attracted industry professionals from all over Perth including Media World Pictures, Storyteller Media Group, WBMC, Siamese, Prospero, CM Films, Spank Effects, and many prominent local filmmakers.
Boundaries was officially opened by Ian Booth, Chief Executive of ScreenWest – Western Australia’s screen funding and development agency.
Several students were recognised at the event, winning awards for their outstanding filmmaking work.
WA Screen Academy Director John Rapsey says the show has become a major event on the WA film industry calendar.
“It’s great to see this event attended by so many key players of the WA film industry,” said Mr Rapsey.
The students will be looking for work in a few months and this is their big chance to impress local industry leaders. The evening was dubbed a huge success by all, and will hopefully be the launching pad for many a successful career.”
Boundaries DVDs are on sale from the WA Screen Academy (room ML 2.214) for $15. For more information contact the WA Screen Academy.
