Professor Caroline Taylor has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her work with social welfare organisations.
Professor Taylor AM is the Foundation Chair in Social Justice and Head of ECU’s Social Justice Research Centre.
She is recognised as one of Australia's leading experts in the fields of child and adult sexual violence, domestic violence, the criminal justice response to victims, and social models of trauma and recovery.
Professor Taylor was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for “service to the community through roles with social welfare organisations as a researcher, and to women's studies as an author.”
The work of ECU’s Professor of Child and Adolescent Health, Professor Donna Cross, was also recognised during the Australia Day celebrations.
Professor Cross is the WA Australian of the Year for 2012 and attended the Australian of the Year ceremony in Canberra on 25 January 2012, where Oscar-winning actor Geoffrey Rush was named the Australian of the Year for 2012.
ECU Vice-Chancellor Professor Kerry Cox congratulated both Professor Cross and Professor Taylor on their achievements.
“On behalf of the ECU community, I congratulate Professor Taylor on her appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia. It is fitting recognition for her research into addressing sexual transgression against children and women,” Professor Cox said.
“I congratulate also Professor Donna Cross, the WA Australian of the Year for 2012, who brought great credit to ECU on national television during live coverage of the announcement in Canberra of the Australian of the Year recipients.”
