Film graduates breaking into the US

Two WA Screen Academy graduates have been invited to screen their film at the 2012 South by South West (SXSW) music and film festival in Austin, Texas.

Perished is a gruesome zombie tale of isolation and survival and is one of only a handful of Australian films to be featured at this prestigious international festival this October.

Co-Creators Stefan Radanovich and Aaron McCann teamed up with UK-based Visual FX Artist David Emeny who is known for his work on feature films including Slum Dog Millionaire, Moon and Conan the Barbarian (2011)).

Stefan said that both Aaron and himself had spent over a year ensuring that Perished contained a vicious and unrelenting dramatic narrative, which is needed in the world of horror.

“There seems to be a stigma around horror films so it’s been a hard slog in the festival circuit thus far,” Stefan said.

“It’s absolutely amazing to be accepted to such a huge international festival with so much enthusiasm from the festival coordinators.”

The SXSW festival runs from 9-17 March and attracts major cinema players like Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Spy Kids and Planet Terror) as well as representatives and agents from film studios Sony Pictures and Aurora Films.

Stefan and Aaron will be promoting Perished and other projects they have been working on. They will also use the opportunity to develop their networks in the film industry.
