Omani delegation at ECU

Tuesday, 08 May 2012

The Consul General of Oman has visited ECU’s Joondalup Campus, touring the state-of-the-art facilities and meeting with Omani students.

His Excellency Dr Hamed Al Alawi, along with Vice- Consul General Musallam Taman Al Amri, were met by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International) Professor Tony Watson and Faculty of Business and Law Dean Professor Atique Islam.

His Excellency was briefed on the range of courses available at ECU before meeting several Omani students.

The visit comes at a time when ECU’s link with the Sultanate have been strengthened following ECU Foundation Professor of Tourism Ross Dowling’s work with the Omani Government to stage a major geotourism conference in Muscat late last year.

His Excellency also visited the Electron Science Research Institute (ESRI) and met with Director Professor Kamal Alameh, who outlined a number of nano particle projects and provided a tour of the clean room facilities.

This tour was followed by a visit to the new mutli-million dollar Engineering building, in particular the mechanical and motorsports laboratories.

School of Engineering Senior Lecturer Dr Kevin Hayward took the opportunity to demonstrate ECU’s Formula SAE racing car, which finished a best-ever third in the 2011 competition in Victoria.

The result has placed ECU 31 in the world rankings for university motorsport, ahead of several prestigious engineering schools.
